How It Works

We start our day by meeting up at the South Kingsway Boat launch (directions down below). Here we’ll introduce ourselves, conduct our orientation and discuss waterfront kayaking knowledge, including equipment and skills. After the knowledge section of the course is complete, it’s time to get our equipment together and begin our on-water education. We warm up with a leisurely paddle South, to the mouth of the Humber River and into Lake Ontario. From the lake we’ll imediately paddle East, inside the protected breakwaters, towards Sunnyside Beach. This warm up paddle is designed to practice/demonstrate our navigation skills and basic kayaking strokes and paddling posture. We’ll stop at Sunnyside Beach for some snacks/light lunch (BYO) then hit the water again. We’ll spend the rest of the afternoon learning via demonstrations & skill building activities. We’ll end our skill building/evaluation by capsizing our kayaks and performing wet exits. At the end of the day, we will return to the South Kingsway Boat Launch for dismissal.
